The UK government are considering criminalising possession of nitrous oxide. This is one of the most commonly used drugs among the younger generation. The plausible effects include anxiety, paranoia, light-headedness, dizziness and even possible unconsciousness. The drug apparently depletes the oxygen within the body.

Personally? I feel like in general, we should be thinking more about rehab and health recovery as opposed to jail sentences, fines or any other punishments. Because this will prevent ppl coming forward for help with withdrawal. In addition, the proportion of deaths from alcohol misuse is higher than from that of nitrous oxide usage. Furthermore, nitrous oxide is ised in whipped creams, suggesting that ingestion of small amounts is not dangerous.
Should nitrous oxide be criminalised?

I'm with you on that, putting people in jail is only going to make them do drugs as soon as they are out of jail. It's also a waste of space/tax payers money putting drug users behind bars when more serious criminals can be placed in jail.

The question is do people go out of their way to get nitrous oxide or to get high? Because if it's the latter then people will just move on to the next drug if it is banned. Does it really change anything? Educating future generations about prevention is the best course of action moving forward.

Yeah, agreed. Ppl often get onto nitrous oxide when withdrawing from other drugs in fact. As I stated earlier, this patterns exists in part due to the very specific focus on the treatment to that one drug.

If people want to do drugs, they'll find the next thing. I'm all for education but we have such a sick society in a polluted world, it's hard for anybody not to want to have a means of escape.
