Pretty good, I've been overly busy the past few days, so today is the start of that more relaxed time.

Happy New Year from a fellow about to 36er!
Getting a savings plan that builds money over time is a huge relief! Even just a dollar more each month still means that you have that financial safeguard. So I do hope the best for you there!
Also, happy early birthday to your wife, does she use forums as well?

I actually think the idea of more competition in the social media space is a good thing. Most major platforms have settled into their niches, and very few of them have any real, direct competitors anymore. A shake‑up would be healthy for both the industry and the users.
But OpenAI launching a social network? That’s where I’m a lot less convinced.
There is huge potential in a platform that has strong AI systems built into the backend: better moderation, faster response to harmful content, and maybe even real progress on misinformation. The tech could genuinely solve problems that current platforms struggle with. The issue is whether people would trust it. The moment users see “content is controlled by AI,” a lot of them are going to assume the worst, even if the system is doing something beneficial.
And realistically, I doubt we’d get a normal social network with AI quietly improving things behind the scenes. The more likely outcome is a platform built around AI‑generated content; an Instagram where nothing you see actually happened, or a Twitter‑style feed where half the posts are machine‑written. That’s not something I’d personally want to use.
I think the future of social media is traditional platforms enhanced by AI tools, not AI replacing the social part entirely. AI can make moderation, safety, and user experience better, but a fully AI‑driven social network feels like the wrong direction. Unless OpenAI is planning something completely non‑AI‑focused, which would be like McDonald’s opening a store that doesn’t serve food, I’m not sure how well this idea lands with the general public.

💬 New Debate of the Month: Workplace Privacy vs Company Control
Uncrowned Addiction just launched a new Debate of the Month, and it’s one that affects almost anyone who’s ever used a company-issued phone or laptop:
Should companies be allowed to access personal conversations on company devices?
We’re seeing more employers monitor emails, messages, and activity on work-issued hardware—sometimes even private texts or third-party app conversations. Companies argue this is necessary for security, compliance, and legal protection. Employees argue it crosses a line into personal privacy, especially outside work hours.
The debate explores:- Where privacy should begin and end on company-owned devices
- Whether consent through policy is meaningful or coerced
- How security, liability, and compliance factor in
- Whether personal conversations should ever be off-limits
- How blurred work/life boundaries complicate enforcement
We’re keeping the discussion informational, balanced, and respectful, with a community poll and open discussion from multiple perspectives.

Should AI Chatbots Be Banned for Minors? 🤖🚫
AI companions like Character.AI, Replika, and Nomi are quickly becoming digital friends, mentors, and even “romantic partners” — but a new Stanford and Common Sense Media study says these bots might be doing real harm to kids and teens.
The report found that some of these chatbots:
- Produce inappropriate or sexual content even when users claim to be underage
- Offer dangerous “advice” related to mental health or self-harm
- Encourage emotional dependency and unhealthy relationship patterns
Researchers say they pose an unacceptable risk to developing minds and are calling for a full ban for anyone under 18.
But that raises tough questions:
- Should governments ban these bots outright, or should parents and tech companies take more responsibility?
- Can we even enforce such a ban when AI is built into almost every app and platform today?
- Are there potential benefits if these systems were better regulated and designed?

We started our home Plex server about a decade ago, and that still remains our only streaming need.

Been playing a lot of Palworld and some Rimworld.

I never really got into them. I know I watched the first one and maybe the second, but while I don't mind gore in movies, I do enjoy a storyline with them, and Saw was pretty loose at best.

I'm just a simple black coffee kind of coffee drinker. Coffee and water are my drinks, with maybe a flavored water added in for a treat here and there.

I don't mind them, but I prefer them cooked and generally in sauces that make them taste less like carrots. Okay, maybe I'm not a fan.

Odds are these sites were hosted in countries where U.S. laws have little reach, and the FBI’s action was limited to seizing the domains themselves. While that’s a visible win, it’s probably more symbolic than permanent.
In reality, the infrastructure behind these piracy networks is often decentralized and resilient. The sites are likely already back online under new domains, with the same content and user base. Domain seizures can slow things down temporarily, but they rarely dismantle the core operation unless international cooperation leads to arrests or server takedowns.
This kind of enforcement is important, but it’s also a game of whack-a-mole. Without broader global coordination and stronger digital enforcement tools, piracy networks will keep adapting and resurfacing.

That peaceful, overcast, calm nature after a day of storms and flooding.

I've been watching some CinemaSins in the background.

I don't really know if I have a favorite. Maybe Bill Burr as I have been watching a lot of his stuff lately, but idk.

I have a business PayPal account just for my sites, so they are paid via PayPal.

I find it difficult to envision Teams being successful in a casual environment, except perhaps within a business context. It never feels streamlined and burdened with features. Slack appears to have a better chance, though it seems they are currently facing some challenges.

Thank you for all the welcomes!

Outpost: Infinite Siege has been my focus recently. The game is unique but unfortunately appears to be abandoned and largely inactive. However, I respect the developers, as their CEO participated in a Discord Q&A and candidly admitted that the game was their dream project. They revealed that they had signed a rushed publishing deal, resulting in a broken codebase that could not be expanded. They also mentioned that the sequel would be the game they had always envisioned and were quite open in expressing their regrets. While I generally do not enjoy supporting abandoned games, this one feels different.
