It's been a long time coming, but Fable is finally back, with a confirmed multi-platform autumn release window across Xbox consoles and services including Play Anywhere, PC, and PlayStation 5. A deep-dive on the new Fable, as well as this release window confirmation, came out during the Xbox Developer Direct along with news of Xbox PC games supporting Windows 11 Arm PCs yesterday. Fans of the original Fable games have endured a long wait for a franchise-faithful entry since 2010's Fable 3, and while the new game is indeed a reboot, it looks both faithful to the originals and improved. to gain the attention of classic and new Fable fans alike.

The new footage and developer commentary paints a positive picture for the upcoming RPG. The scale of this modern Fable game is appropriately open world, but the immersive sim RPG elements have not been dropped. The game will reportedly feature over 1000 unique NPCs with their own daily routines, functional villages, and even subjective moral judgement of your actions. Fable's trademark morality system is still present, but different NPCs will have different values by which your actions are judged. If you're a player who torments chickens, for example, some NPCs will oppose it, while won't mind or will outright encourage it, and if you perform such actions repeatedly, you will develop a reputation in that particular region for tormenting chickens.

This enhanced NPC AI also works in tandem with a job system that allows you to fill any number of roles, ranging from "greedy landlord" to "noted polygamist" to "reliable blacksmith". All of the deep RPG elements of Fable are present, and the "fairytale" tone complete with British humor remains intact too.

But Fable isn't just a simple reboot. An overhauled combat system now features seamless swapping between melee combat, magic, and projectiles, each with several different weapons to utilize. It's a big world with a combat system that seems flush with depth and player expression opportunities. Fable wasn't held in high-regarded for well-balanced combat, with melee being notoriously weak compared to magic in Fable 3, but the options do seem to be more balanced in the upcoming title. It helps that melee has been buffed with strong defensive capabilities in the form of a parry system. Enemy hitstun and melee finishers will also be available, so a melee-focused playstyle with flourishes of ranged pressure and sweeping magical finishers should be a viable playstyle, now.

All told, the new Fable looks to be one of the most promising AAA RPGs we've seen in years. As long as it isn't crippled with technical issues when it launches, we anticipate that a lot of fans old and new will be into it—and if Microsoft is diligent on the Xbox platform support, it may even be playable at launch on Arm PCs via Game Pass without cloud streaming.

Fable game director Ralph Fulton comes across very confident about the game in an extended interview, and based on the work that's been shown this far, that confidence appears justified.

If the TV show I am watching is a show I have a great interest in then I do tend to binge-watch it. The last TV show I watched that I binge-watched was Chicago Fire a few years ago.

I need to binge-watch the last two seasons of Chicago Fire ready for season 13 starting in a few weeks.

Have you seen the new season yet? I've watched an episode or two, but I actually need to catch up on the season lol.

I actually think the idea of more competition in the social media space is a good thing. Most major platforms have settled into their niches, and very few of them have any real, direct competitors anymore. A shake‑up would be healthy for both the industry and the users.

But OpenAI launching a social network? That’s where I’m a lot less convinced.

There is huge potential in a platform that has strong AI systems built into the backend: better moderation, faster response to harmful content, and maybe even real progress on misinformation. The tech could genuinely solve problems that current platforms struggle with. The issue is whether people would trust it. The moment users see “content is controlled by AI,” a lot of them are going to assume the worst, even if the system is doing something beneficial.

And realistically, I doubt we’d get a normal social network with AI quietly improving things behind the scenes. The more likely outcome is a platform built around AI‑generated content; an Instagram where nothing you see actually happened, or a Twitter‑style feed where half the posts are machine‑written. That’s not something I’d personally want to use.

I think the future of social media is traditional platforms enhanced by AI tools, not AI replacing the social part entirely. AI can make moderation, safety, and user experience better, but a fully AI‑driven social network feels like the wrong direction. Unless OpenAI is planning something completely non‑AI‑focused, which would be like McDonald’s opening a store that doesn’t serve food, I’m not sure how well this idea lands with the general public.

I agree. There's also a huge competition in line with Meta's own AI system "Vibes", so they do have a slight advantage here over openAI as well. I actually wonder when or if they'll fully intergrate into Facebook's ecosystem as well.

Currently it's used as a sharing and remixing platform.

I do think that OpenAI will have a successful opening social media site if they plan to launch as one. They convinced throughly when they launched their Sona video app and it was a huge success story. it is probably one of the biggest video making services rn.

The future of social media is currently moderated by AI tools as well, with Reddit using it, along with Facebook and Twitter for moderation/safety, so it is a huge step in the right direction. More platforms entering the seen is a great thing as long as we see more quality features for all.

Nope. It would be a disaster. The ego, we humans have.....is disastrous.

When you are emotional, it's kinda hard to draw logical sense and conclusions...and I don't think we would ever make efficient systems and let's just stick to the status quo -_-"

i do agree. Being emotional sucks. i've been there and sometimes, it is hard for me to discuss my words in full.

So, I tend to keep things to myself.
