    NEW GUIDES

End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) - End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) is a system of communication where only the communicating users can read the messages. In principle, it prevents potential eavesdroppers – including telecom providers, Internet providers, and even the provider of the communication service – from being able to access the cryptographic keys needed to decrypt the conversation.

    IN THE NEWS

Responding to Feedback: Apple Keeps Web Apps for EU iPhones - Apple has announced it will not proceed with its plan to discontinue iPhone web apps in the EU, opting instead to maintain the existing Home Screen web apps capability in iOS 17.4. Despite the continued use of WebKit for these apps, the decision came after feedback and requests for the feature's retention. Initially, Apple cited the Digital Markets Act's requirements as the reason for the planned discontinuation, but the reversal highlights the company's adaptability to user and developer concerns, as well as the importance of regulatory considerations.

Threads Embarks on a New Journey: API Access Opens Doors for Developers - Threads, the Meta-owned social platform, is set to open its API to developers by June, marking a significant move towards enhancing platform functionality and user engagement. This initiative aims to facilitate seamless integration with third-party applications, enabling developers to publish and manage content efficiently. Currently in partnership with select social tools and developers, Threads is looking to expand API capabilities, including moderation and insights. While the impact on third-party client development remains to be seen, Threads' API release signals a potential shift towards more open and collaborative social media ecosystems.

Facebook Shifts Focus: News Tab to Be Phased Out in US and Australia - Facebook is set to phase out its News tab in the US and Australia in April 2024, following a similar move in the UK, France, and Germany. This decision reflects a shift in user engagement towards content like short-form videos and away from news and political content, which makes up less than 3% of the global feed. News publishers will still be able to share their content on Facebook, and the company's commitment to fighting misinformation through its extensive fact-checking network remains strong. This change is part of Meta's ongoing effort to align investments with the services users most value.

  • DOTM: The Ethical and Safety Implications of Virology Research on Virus Evolution - Balancing Risks and Rewards

The field of virology, particularly studies focused on virus evolution, plays a crucial role in understanding how viruses adapt, spread, and can be contained or neutralized. However, this research often involves manipulating viral genomes to assess their potential impact on humans, a practice that has raised ethical concerns and fears of accidental outbreaks. The debate over these practices, including "gain-of-function" research, has been further ignited by the COVID-19 pandemic and the controversies surrounding the Wuhan Institute of Virology. This discussion aims to explore whether the risks and ethical dilemmas associated with virus evolution studies are justified by the potential benefits.

  • The Uncrowned Empire Lives Again

The Uncrowned Empire is once again alive — not reborn, but reignited.

We never officially shut down. But for a time, we drifted into silence — no updates, no clear direction, and no new content. Today, we are proud to break that silence. The Empire has returned with purpose, focus, and immense gratitude to those who supported us through every phase — our past users, our current community, and those just discovering us.

We’re humbled by our journey and everything it has taught us. This revival is not just a second chance — it’s a better beginning.

What Happened & The Hurdles We Faced

Our mission has always been to create a community-first platform — and that hasn’t changed. But our original decision to put forums and community tools before content proved to be a major mistake. Without a strong foundation of value, growth stalled. Our social media outreach faltered. Our platforms became fragmented.

When the pandemic hit, it compounded everything — from budget limitations to morale. Personal hardships followed, and we found ourselves cutting core features and even canceling our Invision Community license entirely — merely days before deciding to bring the platform back.

We were falling apart behind the scenes, but the vision never died.

    Lessons Learned

We learned the hard way that a community cannot be built on ambition alone.

Trying to force a social platform to grow without giving people a reason to join was backwards. Uncrowned Empire was always a one-man operation, quietly supported by his wife, and together we tried to build something greater than ourselves — but we didn’t yet know how to serve the people we hoped would join us.

Now we do. And we understand that before there can be a community, there must be value. And that’s where our focus now begins.

    What’s Changed

A great deal — and all for the better.

    • We’ve shifted from community-led content to a content-first philosophy. We're building the value upfront, and inviting the community to grow around it.
    • Our Monetization Policy is now public, so users know exactly how we fund our operations — no hidden ad systems or vague affiliate ties.
    • We’re rolling out an AI Usage Notice as well, explaining how we use AI tools to support clarity in guides and help write news articles transparently.

🔧 Uncrowned Addiction: A Tech World You Own

Uncrowned Addiction has embraced a bold new purpose: championing user ownership in technology. We’re shifting our focus toward topics that matter in the modern digital world — from home servers and self-hosted tools to the right to repair and open-source independence.

It’s no longer just about neat utilities. It’s about helping you take back control of your digital life.

We’re also revamping our Clubs system to foster micro-communities built around shared goals — not just topics. These Clubs will serve as collaborative spaces for project documentation, self-reliant solutions, and knowledge sharing without needing a traditional forum model.

Uncrowned Addiction won’t compete with big tech media — we’re carving out a space for those who want to own their tools, shape their networks, and learn by doing.

🎮 Uncrowned Gaming: Strategy, Leadership, and True Guidance

Our flagship site has undergone a complete transformation.

Uncrowned Gaming is no longer centered on broad shooter coverage — a field already saturated. Instead, we now focus on underserved genres like party-based RPGs and army leadership & warfare games. These are titles that deserve deeper guides, better tools, and genuine strategy resources — and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.

The forum has been restructured to match this new focus, and our once-sprawling esports section has been retired. We're not trying to outcompete gaming giants — we’re here to support the players they overlook.

🛡 Uncrowned Armory: Quiet Now, But Not for Long

Still early in its development, Uncrowned Armory will soon grow into a valuable resource of military history, home security, and even prepping insights. It will evolve steadily as we bring together the right content, contributors, and tools to make it a trusted place for tactical and civilian security knowledge.

    What’s Happening Now

All sites are now fully online and active. New content is being published regularly. Tools are upgraded. Forums are live. The Empire breathes again.

And we’re not coming back alone.

We’re proud to announce the upcoming Uncrowned Communities Project — our way of giving back to the small forums, blogs, and creators who kept the community spirit alive. We're offering free sponsor spots across our sites for independent creators and community-based projects. No fees, no strings, no registration required. Just mutual support.

More details will be released soon.

    The Road Ahead

    So, where are we going?

    • Uncrowned Addiction will continue expanding its library of tools, tech news, and home server content. Minor design fixes from the IC5 upgrade are still being addressed.
    • Uncrowned Armory will begin publishing deeper, more structured military and civilian defense content.
    • Uncrowned Gaming will enter a full-growth phase — focused on guides, calculators, and long-term value for strategy gamers.

Beyond that, the Empire will begin expanding its social presence, exploring new platforms, and deepening its connection with both users and creators.

We are focused now. We are growing. And most importantly, we’re building something worth being a part of.

Want to Be Part of the Project?

The Uncrowned Empire has always been about building something greater than just a website — and we can’t do that alone.

We’re always looking for community-minded individuals who want to help shape the future of independent platforms. Whether you're a passionate moderator, a content creator, or someone with a vision for building meaningful communities — there's a place for you here.

    • Want to help manage forums and engage users? We need moderators who care about quality.
    • Want to write guides, craft resources, or report news? We’d love to feature your work.
    • Running your own community or blog? Let’s grow together through collaboration and sponsorship.

This is your invitation to help shape the next chapter of the Uncrowned Empire — not just as a user, but as a builder. If that sounds like you, simply reply here or send me a private message.

    Thank You

None of this would exist without our community — even when quiet, even when small, even when struggling.

We’re no longer trying to build a site for the sake of having one. We’re building sites that people want to be part of — and that starts with putting value first.

Thank you for believing in us, for challenging us, and for giving us another shot.
The Empire stands — and it stands stronger than ever.

Should AI Chatbots Be Banned for Minors? 🤖🚫

AI companions like Character.AI, Replika, and Nomi are quickly becoming digital friends, mentors, and even “romantic partners” — but a new Stanford and Common Sense Media study says these bots might be doing real harm to kids and teens.

The report found that some of these chatbots:

    • Produce inappropriate or sexual content even when users claim to be underage
    • Offer dangerous “advice” related to mental health or self-harm
    • Encourage emotional dependency and unhealthy relationship patterns

Researchers say they pose an unacceptable risk to developing minds and are calling for a full ban for anyone under 18.

    But that raises tough questions:

    • Should governments ban these bots outright, or should parents and tech companies take more responsibility?
    • Can we even enforce such a ban when AI is built into almost every app and platform today?
    • Are there potential benefits if these systems were better regulated and designed?

  • đź’¬ New Debate of the Month: Workplace Privacy vs Company Control

Uncrowned Addiction just launched a new Debate of the Month, and it’s one that affects almost anyone who’s ever used a company-issued phone or laptop:

Should companies be allowed to access personal conversations on company devices?

We’re seeing more employers monitor emails, messages, and activity on work-issued hardware—sometimes even private texts or third-party app conversations. Companies argue this is necessary for security, compliance, and legal protection. Employees argue it crosses a line into personal privacy, especially outside work hours.

    The debate explores:

    • Where privacy should begin and end on company-owned devices
    • Whether consent through policy is meaningful or coerced
    • How security, liability, and compliance factor in
    • Whether personal conversations should ever be off-limits
    • How blurred work/life boundaries complicate enforcement

We’re keeping the discussion informational, balanced, and respectful, with a community poll and open discussion from multiple perspectives.

  • đź’¬ New Debate of the Month: User Data Leaks — Have We Built a System Too Broken to Fix?

Uncrowned Addiction just launched a new Debate of the Month, and it focuses on a problem so common that a lot of people barely react to it anymore:

    User data leaks.

But instead of just asking whether breaches are bad, this debate goes deeper into the system behind them.

    We’re looking at things like:

    • whether private and public organizations collect far too much data in the first place
    • how new age verification and identity systems may create even bigger privacy risks
    • whether weak regulation has allowed this problem to become normal
    • if people have become desensitized to breaches because they feel powerless
    • and whether society should fight to preserve privacy, or accept that personal data is becoming functionally public

The goal isn’t just outrage — it’s a real discussion about what should actually be done, how it should be done, and whether the current data-driven model of modern life is even sustainable.
