I'm currently using Linux Mint as I type this up. I decided to go ahead and use the hard drive that was in my first PS4 that overheated to install Linux Mint. Oh man I need a SSD lol, it's usable but it's pretty slow and I know things would run smoother if I had a SSD instead of a hard drive. I'm wanting to see if I can use Linux for good and will be testing the waters for a month. I had some issues with OBS, so I'm not sure if I can keep using Linux on a hard drive. So far I've had issues with installing the proper Nvidia drivers for my graphics card so I'm just using the generic open source driver that is automatically installed with the distro. Of course I have a little error saying I should use the recommended drivers, but they don't install properly because secure boot must be preventing it. On Linux if you're installing third party drivers, you have to have a password for secure boot and it's supposed to prompt you to enter it upon reboot. Well that never happens, so the driver install doesn't complete and I get a error and then the display looks wrong since the drivers are broken. :S I just have to hit up the Linux Mint forums and see if they can help. I should see how I can boot into my computer's Bios screen though. That may help me out. So this marks the beginning of my Linux journey. Though there's still password I need to figure out and log into different accounts on my Linux install. So I will continue to boot into Windows 11 when I need to.

I'm currently typing this up on my Lubuntu installation on my 128 GB USB drive! Also OBS works properly on this install, and I got Retroarch installed. I did run into an issue getting DaVinci Resolve to install, it just wouldn't install. So I decided to use KdenLIve instead and it honestly seems to run smoother than DaVinci Resolve does on my Windows 11 installation! I did notice that Retroarch runs a bit slower while recording footage with OBS, but hopefully this won't be too noticeable when I go to actually start editing this video. So far I'm very pleased with Lubuntu!

Ran into a issue today. Probably because I have Lubuntu on a flash drive, but I attempted to use a couple extra USB drives and well it didn't detect the drives. I had to boot back into Windows to get the flash drives to open. I filmed a short video showing off what's on the flash drives but it was a bit of a dud so I might not publish this video. Maybe I'll hold on to the video and use it if I ever decide to start a Patreon or something else.

  • So back in May I got a SSD and installed Ubuntu on to it! I unfortunately can't ditch Windows 11 all together, some programs I use don't work on Linux. For example my Elgato Capture Device doesn't work in OBS, and the program that comes with the hardware also doesn't work in Linux... So I am dual booting again this time I'm keeping the SSD attached to my computer.
